Jerry Barbanell is checking off one more thing from his bucket list. He’s going huge Sunday. 1,000 miles in 24 hours then following it up with 500 miles in under 36 hours. True “Iron butting”. Epic!
From Jerry:
I am going on an Iron Butt (http://ironbutt.org/) ride starting at 3am this Sunday with my long time friend Kirby Nellis. An Iron Butt, Saddlesore 1000 ride is 1000 miles in under 24 hours, minimum. If you would like to follow our progress then all you have to do is click on these links to my Spot Tracker (Satellite Locator). It will show our progress in 10 minute increments. Sunday we will be doing a little short of 1100 miles and Monday we will be doing an additional 500 to Parker, AZ. to qualify for a Bun Burner 1500, which is 1500 miles in under 36 hours. In the event of bad weather on Sunday we will delay the start for 24 hours.
The route is a as follows: 1st leg (approx. 18 hours)= San Clemente to Ludlow (gas stop), Ludlow-Needles-Seachlight-Las Vegas, NV (gas stop), Las Vegas-Cedar City, UT (gas stop), Cedar City, UT-Ely, NV (gas stop), Ely, NV-Tonopah, NV (gas stop), Tonopah, NV- Pahrump, NV (gas and motel stop). 2nd leg= Pahrump, NV-Death Valley-Devore, CA (gas stop), Devore, CA- Quartzite, AZ (gas stop), Quartzite, AZ- Parker, AZ.
I’d be interested in your opinion on which tracking site below you prefer. You can change the maps from, street to satellite to terrain, etc. Zoom in and out. Click on the markers for more information.
